MIDDLETON, N.S. —

There’s a new regional banner to display at Middleton Regional High School.

For the second time in 30 years, Middleton’s junior girls emerged from regionals as the tournament champions. The first time was in 2004.

“The girls had a great season with two close games at regionals,” said Sarah LeBlanc, who coached the team with Donna Brown.

Middleton edged out Northeast Kings Education Centre 48-47 to advance to a hard-fought final against Bluenose Academy at the Maple Grove Education Centre in Yarmouth.

“The final game of the regional tournament was a back and forth game, with several lead changes,” said LeBlanc.

“The team was able to hang on to the lead and win the regional banner with a score of 39-38.”

Middleton travelled to Yarmouth, Bridgewater and Mahone Bay for tournament play this season, earning valuable experience leading up to regionals.

“The team supported one another throughout the year and demonstrated a high level of sportsmanship,” said LeBlanc.

“They were a great group to coach, and we are already looking forward to next year's season.”
