Ella Blanche Sanford (1927 – 2017) and Bruce Victor Sanford (1927 – 2018). Today, we bring our family’s matriarch and patriarch home to Clementsvale, their final resting place. Blanche Sanford was a woman of exceptional grace and style. She was an intelligent, caring presence and dearly loved by her family. She raised her two sons, Gary (Fran) and John (Karen) to be men of character and instilled in her only granddaughter, Jennifer, the values of strength and poise. Blanche was a quiet and private person; she was a mentor, a teacher, an inspiration, and a source of strength to those who loved her. She leaves an empty space that cannot be filled, but we take comfort in the memories we have of her warm laugh, her soft touch, and her wise words. She truly was a caring wife, an exceptional mother, and incomparable grandmother. Bruce Sanford had an unquenchable passion for learning. A BSc degree from Acadia University in 1949 was followed by a 40-year career with the Geological Survey of Canada. Bruce dedicated his life to exploring the geological history of southwestern Ontario and Canada’s north. He was awarded the R.J.W. Douglas Award from the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists in 1988 and the A.I. Levorsen Memorial Award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in 1990. Bruce always believed that Canada’s greatest resources are the intellectual contributions of its citizens. At the age of 80, he earned a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Ottawa. A year later, he was appointed as a Member to the Order of Canada for his contributions to science. Now he joins the earth he loved so much in the place he always called home. Internment will take place at the Clementsvale United Baptist Church on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 1 p.m.
