The National Capital Commission (NCC) is providing the Town of Yarmouth a donation of 5,000 tulips, as it does every year for the area hosting the annual national Communities in Bloom CIB awards.
Close to 250 delegates from Canada and the U.S. are expected to attend the Sept. 25 to 28 national CIB symposium in Yarmouth.
This year, the donated tulip bulbs are the Liberation 75 tulip, a special orange tulip that is being promoted, and sold to consumers, by the Canadian Tulip Festival, in partnership with the NCC and the Embassy of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands to honour the Canadians who liberated Holland in 1945.
Town of Yarmouth councillor and chairman of the Yarmouth Communities in Bloom committee, Wade Cleveland, says the gift is an exciting one.
“I know some of our veterans are excited as well,” he said.
Parks supervisor Todd Muise says, as a veteran and member of the Wedgeport legion, he views the gift as a great thing and would like to involve the legions in the area in a project associated with the bulbs.
