It seems that every day there’s something going on around the Valley, whether it be a ghost walk, a farmer’s market, or a summertime festival.
Although the majority of these events are family-friendly, there aren’t many that are geared specifically towards young children. It was exactly this thought that inspired a brand-new event in Wolfville: the KidFest.
The Sunday afternoon concert event takes place in Willow Park on Aug. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with performances by Matt the Music Man and Jamie Junger. Junger specializes in folk music for kids, and while Matt performs folk as well, he says his favourite genre is rock ‘n roll. At the end of the concert, the two of them will perform together. The Bridgetown Buccaneers will also be making an appearance doing face painting and playing games.
Matt planned the event together with Kory Bayer of Kory Bayer Audio in Wolfville. The two of them raised money throughout the community in efforts to make the concert free.
If the kids start to tire out or want to switch it up, there’s a designated Reading Corner sponsored by the Box of Delights Bookshop. There will be a wide variety of books to browse throughout the afternoon.
“At the end of my sets, I let the kids play some instruments. I have a chest full of little instruments that I bring out and it gives everyone the chance to join in on the performance. It’s a lot of fun,” says Matt.
