A new off-road racing season will soon kick into gear in New Minas.
The Kings County Off-Road Racing Club is hosting the fourth annual Valley Tire Ltd. 4X4 Truck Rally at Jones Pit May 18-19.
Registration for the Saturday drags opens at 8:30 a.m., and the racing begins at 10 a.m. Registration for Sunday’s slalom events opens at 8 a.m. May 19, with racing slated to get underway at 9 a.m.
A women’s class has been added to the lineup this year. Other events include: SxS, six cylinder, Stock8, Sportsman, Prolite, Pro Mod, Super Stock, Pro Stock and Modified.
“They’re all highlights,” said Kings County Off-Road Racing Club president Steve Gillis.
“People like the mayhem more than anything, rollovers and stuff like that.”
The proceeds raised support the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department.
“It’s an afternoon of fun and lots to watch,” said Gillis, who noted that monster truck rides will be offered on site Sunday as part of a collection drive for the Children’s Wish Foundation.
The Victoria Day weekend rally marks the start of another Maritime Off-Road Racing season. The 41st annual Thunder in the Valley rally will see the action returning to Jones Pit for the close of the season Oct. 12-13.
“We include a hill climb in the fall,” said Gillis.
Admission for the upcoming rally is $10, but kids under the age of 12 get in for free.
