MIDDLETON - Middleton’s recreation department has lots of options for those who want to slap on snowshoes or cross-country skies and get out in the snow. If there was snow. Fingers crossed.

Recreation director Jennifer Coolen is hopeful that the new year will bring some of the white stuff so she can loan out the appropriate gear and people can become winter active – getting healthy and having fun at the same time.
From the first week of January onwards, the Town of Middleton will be offering free loans on snowshoes, cross-country skis and poles, kids’ hockey helmets (small size only), and Nordic walking poles to Middleton and area residents. And cross-country ski boots are also available.
Town Hall is just a few minutes away from the trail, and several parks. Or you can take them home and head out to your own favourite spot. And if you want some instruction, Coolen and gang will show you how.
The program is on a “while quantities last” basis. Long-term loans are not encouraged as this prevents others from benefitting.
Reservations are indeed recommended either by e-mail recoffice@town.middleton.ns.ca or by phone (902) 825-6611. Items must be signed out and identification (driver’s license or Health Card) is required. This loan program is run out of the Recreation Department which is located on the second floor of Town Hall.
Now – let’s hope for some snow!
