Cape Sable Island man drowns

RCMP have released the name of the man who drowned in a tragic accident earlier this week in Annapolis County.

Cecil Ellsworth Brannen, 51, from Cape Sable Island, drowned after he fell in the frigid water. Corp. Dale Guy said the man went missing Tuesday after a small boat overturned in the Fisher Lake area. Brannen and another man were out trout fishing, when the small fibreglass boat struck a rock and overturned.

The other man was able to swim to shore and call for help. Police, members of DND, Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue, Annapolis Royal Fire Department and various individuals had difficulty accessing the area, but were able to recover the man’s body at about 7:35 a.m.

He added that lifejackets were found in the boat. RCMP do not suspect foul play.
