Line of Duty Death

By Jonathan Riley

A volunteer firefighter died on the way to the New Germany firehall early this morning.

The New Germany Volunteer fire department had been called to a flooded basement and the 60-year-old man from Pinehurst was headed to the hall, according to several posts on Facebook.

An RCMP press release says the man was headed north on Highway 10 when his truck crossed the road and landed in the ditch about 4:20 a.m.

They could not confirm that he was a firefighter or say what caused the accident.

RCMP, Emergency Health Services and New Germany Fire Department responded to the single vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 10 in New Germany. The driver and lone occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

An RCMP traffic analyst was called in to assist investigators and the investigation is continuing.

Firefighters in Annapolis County and across the province were changing their Facebook profile photos to a crest that depicts a firefighter Line of Duty Death.
