This summer several of those bands are returning to the stage for a reunion concert on July 27 and 28 titled "Still Crazy!"
Organizer Kathryn Killam says a reunion like this has been on her mind for a while.
"This was the right time to do this," she says.
Killam says some of it is nostalgia, some from people wanting to have another reunion. However another perspective on it is you don't know what is around the corner, and people wanting to make those connections one more time.
"This is not the last hurrah, but it is a good time for everybody to meet," she says.
On of the bands taking the stage is Sandy Road, named after Alister (Sandy) MacLean. MacLean went on to become a classical composer, studying at Julliard and other institutions. Killam and MacLean stayed friends after school, and continued to correspond over the years.
Killam said their conversations inevitably came back to Liverpool and the bands that performed when they were in school. That planted the seed that eventually became the reunion concerts.
Originally it was about bringing the bands back together, but Killam says it grew to be somewhat of a school reunion as well. However the concert is open to anyone who was in school when those bands played, and not just those who graduated.
"It's about people who listened to that music, and people who listened to those bands," she said.
The main band Killam remembers is Melody Fair, which like many bands from Liverpool had quite a following around the Maritimes.
Once school finished, some members moved on to music careers, and others went on to different career paths. Killam says all of them continued to make music in some way.
However the band had not played together for 40 years, and most of the members had not seen each other for nearly as long. Getting them back together was no easy feat.
"It was a lot of chasing lead and emailing," she says.
Some were shots in the dark, such as posting on Facebook pages of old bars the band used to play at. Eventually she found all but the keyboard player, and convinced them to get back together again for the show.
It took similar efforts with other bands, but in the end Killam managed to bring two others back together along with a few other performers.

Curling Club open from noon till 1 a.m.
Throughout the day, from noon onward, the bar and snack kitchen will be open inside the Curling Club. The Chippy Chippy Bang Bang wagon will be outside throughout most of the event, selling fish and chips and such. The kitchen will provide fresh pizzas from our local pizzerias. Snacks such as muffins and cookies available through various charity groups fundraising.
