Village of New Minas pulls out the stops to celebrate milestone 50th anniversary


NEW MINAS, NS - It was a milestone birthday party for the Village of New Minas that ended with a bang.

The New Minas 50th Celebration Days featured a wide range of free, family-friendly events and attractions, with something sure to interest anyone. This year, Celebration Days was moved to Sept. 1 to coincide with New Minas’s 50th anniversary. The village was officially incorporated on Sept. 1, 1968.

There were the regular staples that village events in Lockhart and Ryan Memorial Park have come to be known for, such as the soap slide, balloon animals and sculptures, face painting, bounce castles, musical performers and a barbecue. The musical line-up included the Mark Clarke Trio, the Justin Wood Band and the Kevin Davison band.

New to the 50th anniversary celebration were food trucks, axe throwing and an author meet and greet sponsored by Coles. Local authors featured included Dave Whitman, Mike Parker, Vernon Oickle, Brenda Thompson, Sarah Sawler, Andria Hill-Lehr, Carmen Legge, Leo Deveau, Ann Barry and Dr. Robert A. Ernst.

The milestone edition of Celebration Days concluded with a spectacular firework display that lit up the park.
