We asked Ross Johnson, West Nova Green Party candidate:
1. Why are you running?
I am running for many reasons: I have had enough of politics as it has been and it needs a change; I have an opportunity to have my voice heard on issues and now I am in that position to have that voice and let the people know there is hope for federal politics; I really, genuinely, want to help in whatever way I can.
2. Three of the four of you we have seen on the ballot - and two in office - before: what do you offer this time around?
I offer a fresh change of thinking and action. Not being a career politician, I kinda feel untainted, if you know what I mean. This is my first attempt at politics of any form, and it has been very interesting so far. I care about West Nova and its issues: charity begins at home.
3. What are the top-three challenges facing West Nova?
Gee, only three, that’s hard to pick. Not in any order: tourism, which covers a broad range of topics, fishing and farming industries and health care - then there are hundreds more.

4. Talk about transportation links in the riding: no trains, poor highways, the Digby and Yarmouth ferry links…. Where is the plan?
What links? We have been cut to the bone: first the railroad is taken away, then the plane is taken away, then the bus is taken away, then they take away the ferries in Yarmouth - two of them. So, what’s next? The roads? They are already in poor condition, and gas prices are so high people can’t travel by car. There are 10 or so big issues in this question.
5. Is your federal leader an asset in the West Nova campaign?
Is Elizabeth May an asset to West Nova? Absolutely, she is.
The Kings County Advertiser, Register and The Annapolis Spectator will be hosting a candidates’ forum in West Nova April 18 at West Kings High School. Doors open at 6:30.
