Lawrencetown's second annual Canada Day Celebration promises to be a big attraction as events unfold just after lunch at the local library and later move across the Annapolis River to the village swimming pool.
The July 1 activities begin at 1 p.m. at the Frank W. Morse Memorial Library parking lot in Lawrencetown. Should it be a rainy day, the event will move to the fire hall. All events, games, activities, and food are free.
The celebration will start with the singing of O’Canada and raising of the Canadian flag. There will entertainment on the stage, the making of balloon animals, face painting, “stick-on” flag tattoos, bubble making, a bouncy castle, the fire department’s 'Wall of Water,' sidewalk chalk art, a barbeque, a giant Canadian Flag cake, and rides on the Barrel Train.
Don’t forget the sunscreen, and a change of clothes for the kids or a bathing suit, since running through the 'Wall of Water' produces wet kids.
Following the activities at the library, there will be a parade to the Lawrencetown Pool, led by Lawrencetown’s shiny new fire truck, where all participants can enjoy a free swim.
Last year about 300 local residents and visitors showed up for the village's Canada Day event which is hosted by the Lawrencetown Swimming Pool Committee, the Village of Lawrencetown, and the Lawrencetown Volunteer Fire Department. Based on the success of 2008, organizers have expanded the celebrations to include more events.
All residents of the area are encouraged to take part in this free day of fun.
