West Nova member working on rehabilitation measures

West Nova MP Greg Kerr has suffered a minor stroke, he told residents of the riding Friday in a public letter.

“Many people have asked why I cancelled several meetings and events recently. The answer is I had a minor stroke,” he said. “I feel fine and the only damage seems to be my vision which has been reduced, hopefully a temporary problem.”

Kerr said he will be focusing on a number of rehabilitation measures in the coming weeks and advised his public availability will be limited.

“My staff will be working hard to see that service is not disrupted and (regional executive assistant in Yarmouth) Arnold LeBlanc will be meeting with me regularly so that I am fully briefed on all the issues.”

Rico Vipari, Kerr’s executive assistant in Ottawa, said Kerr suffered the stroke the week of Jan. 14 and is now at home recovering.

Kerr’s return to Ottawa and public duties is “still to be determined as he works through rehabilitation,” Vipari said in an interview.

“It’s business as usual,” in the meantime, Vipari added.  “Anyone can contact any of us and we will continue to representing any concerns anyone has to federal departments.”

Kerr, who is 65, has represented the riding since 2008.  He was a provincial MLA from 1978 to 1993 and served in cabinet for 13 years, including eight as minister of finance.
