Police are still trying to resolve an incident in Greenwood where a man has barricaded himself inside his Hall Road home near the Highway 201. RCMP have been on the scene since Saturday evening when they were called about an “emotionally disturbed” man who claims to have firearms who had shut himself inside the residence. Police say the man is alone in the home.
Cheryl Johnstone lives across the street from the scene and is upset with how little information RCMP have provided.
“We still have not had a policeman at our door… to say what is going on,” she said around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. “My main concern is that we don’t know anything.”
“At 8 p.m. last night we were sitting here and saw the (police) cars pull in,” Johnstone said. “We watched them walk around his house for about half an hour and then saw them back up.”
At 4 a.m., Johnstone said, police were using a loudspeaker to try to communicate with the man and had spotlights trained on the home.
By morning, all was quiet, she said, but neighbours spotted the man opening his front door to knock the loudspeaker off his step.
Johnstone has lived in the area for 10 years and has never spoken to the man who she estimates to be in his 50s.
Roadblocks are set up at Hall Road and the 201 (Glebe Road) and at Hall and Palmer. RCMP are asking the public to stay away from the area.
The RCMP's Emergency Response Team and EHS are also at the scene.
Update: 1:15 p.m.
According to Leblanc, roadblocks are set up at Hall Road and Glebe Road west of the incident and on Glebe Road east of the incident.
There are no updates on the situation.
“We’re hoping to reach a peaceful resolution,” Leblanc said.

A number of homes in the Greenwood area have been evacuated while police try to speak to a man inside a Hall Road residence.
Kings District RCMP were called to a home Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. where an “emotionally disturbed” man who claims to have firearms has barricaded himself inside a home.
Police say interactions with the man have been unsuccessful and several neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
“Specialized crisis intervention police resources were summoned to the scene and continue to speak with the man who is alone in his residence,” RCMP said in a press release at noon Dec. 9.
EHS is also at the scene.
“Our people are in constant contact with him,” RCMP Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said. He confirmed the Emergency Response Team has been at the scene.
Police are asking the general public to stay away from the area and a number of roadblocks are in place in the Hall Road, Central Avenue area.
I believe because he said he has firearms, now do you think the police are going to be fine with leaving him alone after that comment? Whether it is true or not, I don't think they will take it lightly.
