Annapolis Royal’s new municipal council was sworn in at a special council meeting on November 7 as former Mayor Phil Roberts handed over the chain of office to newcomer Michael Tompkins.

Tompkins was sworn in and then administered the oath of office to his councillors Pat Power, Sherman Hudson, Paul Paquette, and Byron Mersereau. Power and Hudson were also members of the previous council.

In council business, the new councillors agreed on a two-year term for deputy mayor and by secret ballot elected power to serve as the deputy, a position she held under the previous council.
