Reg Ritchie has been returned as warden of Annapolis County. The former Department of Transportation supervisor was elected by his council peers Tuesday evening in a special council meeting.

Veteran councillor Marilyn Wilkins was elected as deputy warden, a position she has held in the past.

Ritchie has been on council representing the people of District 8 since 1991 and has been warden for the past two years, replacing former councillor Peter Newton after a warden review mid-way through Newton's term.

Ritchie re-offered in the October 20 elections and faced newcomer J.C. Mongiat in the District 8 contest. Ritchie said he re-offered so he could continue to work on issues important to the residents and businesses in the county, including a tax rate that is affordable while still providing services that residents require and request.

Ritchie is a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Order, and Royal Canadian Legion.

The elections of warden and deputy warden were held after the new council members were sworn in by county clerk Carolyn Young.

The new council will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. at the municipal administration building in Annapolis Royal. That will be the first regular session of committee of the whole. All council and committee of the whole meetings are open to the public.
