A 67-year-old Annapolis County man is dead after a workplace accident late Tuesday afternoon on Highway 10. David Garfield Isreal, from Melvern Square, died as a result of his injuries.
At about 5 p.m., Annapolis RCMP, assisted by the Nictaux Volunteer Fire Department and EHS, responded to an incident on Highway 10 in Albany.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a dump truck had rolled over pinning a worker who was doing traffic control, said Cpl. Dale Guy. He said the truck was driving at a crawling speed but the elevated box of the truck snagged a power line causing the vehicle to flip over.
Isreal was not a Department of Transportation employee, but worked for a company contracted for the Highway 10 project.
Guy said the distraught driver of the truck was taken to hospital and later released.
The investigation is continuing with assistance from Annapolis Valley Traffic Services and Nova Scotia Vehicle Compliance. Guy said a Department of Labour occupational health and safety officer was also at the scene of the accident.
Born in Annapolis Royal, Isreal was the son of the late Ralph and Julia (Bent) Israel. In early years, David was an internal auditor with Canada Post. Later he owned and operated Square One Country Store in Melvern Square and most recently he was employed with Dexter Construction.
Isreal is survived by his wife the former Frances Baker, a son and daughter, and three grandchildren.
Visitation is today, Friday, Sept. 21, at the Middleton Funeral Home, where the funeral service well be held Saturday, Sept. 22. Rev. Bruce Kaiser is officiating.
