The Nova Scotia Marathon Canoe Association, in collaboration with the Clean Annapolis River Project, will be hosting the annual Annapolis River Racing Day on Saturday, May 5, CARP said Wednesday.
Canoeists and kayakers of all ages and skill levels are invited to come out and participate.
The races will run from the Annapolis River bridge in Kingston to the Middleton bridge. Participants will be able to register the day of the race between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the Annapolis River boat launch on Bridge Street, in Kingston, with races to start at 11 a.m. Registration cost is $15/person. Refreshments will be available at the end of the races in Middleton, where prizes will also be awarded.
Participants will have the option to take part in several different racing categories, from a family friendly recreational class, to marathon single and tandem racing canoe classes.
All participants must have their own boat and safety gear including a Personal Floatation Device (PFD), bailer, three-metre safety line, spare paddle, and whistle.
A portion of each registration fee will be donated to the Clean Annapolis River Project, a charitable organization working towards an ecologically healthy Annapolis River watershed.
