Hurricane Earl turned east in the night and almost missed Annapolis County as it raced up the south shore to make land just west of Lunenburg mid-morning Saturday.
While there were numerous power outages and fallen trees along the Atlantic Coast, Earl didn't even stop the Farmers and Traders Market in Annapolis Royal as a half dozen vendors set up and a trickle of customers were already making purchases by 8:30 a.m.

There was wind and rain, but it didn't amount to much -- there wasn't even a white cap on the water and most people out and about in Annapolis Royal didn't even bother with rain gear.
Along Highway 1 from Annapolis Royal to Middleton there were no downed trees or even branches knocked off trees. In Cottage Cove and Port George north of Middleton on the Bay of Fundy there was a lively surf but nothing to attract more than a handful of spectators at the provincial picnic park.
By noon in Middleton it appeared to be business as usual with shoppers out and about and Earl well on its way to Truro and on to PEI. Although there was still some wind by mid-afternoon, the sun was pushing through by 4 p.m.
