Bears, cattle, drunks, break-ins keep RCMP busy

The Annapolis detachment of the RCMP responded to 91 calls for assistance during the week of September 29 through October 6. Among these were two motor vehicle accidents, eight false 911s, five false alarms, and one domestic matter.

Following are highlights of these calls: (Note: due to the sensitive nature of complaints involving sexual assault, domestic violence, children’s welfare and mental health, not all calls are considered appropriate for publication) -- September 29 at 9:48 a.m. A complaint of theft under $5,000 was reported in West Dalhousie after a generator was stolen. -- September 29 at 11:20 a.m. A patrol was dispatched to Deep Brook to assist Emergency Health Services staff with a medical emergency. -- September 29 at 11:44 a.m. A resident reported a break and enter into a Melvern Square shed. Power tools and a chainsaw were stolen. -- September 29 at 12:08 p.m. A Wilmot resident reported being threatened. -- September 29 at 8:38 p.m. Police were called to Lequille after an intoxicated woman tried to break into a vehicle. She was taken into custody and held overnight. -- September 29 at 9:35 p.m. Police were called to the 101 Highway near Exit 21 in response to a vehicle fire. The incident was attributed to a mechanical failure. -- September 30 at 11:15 a.m. A caller reported a break and enter into a cottage in Greenland. -- September 30 at 12:08 p.m. A Middleton resident reported that a bicycle had been stolen. Police located the suspect and recovered the bicycle. -- September 30 at 2:23 p.m. Three suspicious youth were reported seen in the area of Rumsey Lake. A patrol was dispatched and located the youth. Investigation revealed they had been in the area for a few days, allegedly breaking into cottages. The youth were taken into custody and various stolen items were recovered. -- September 30 at 8:35 p.m. Police received a report of an impaired driver in Lawrencetown. -- September 30 at 9:24 p.m. A Bridgetown business requested that police assist EHS with an injured and intoxicated male. -- September 30 at 10 p.m. A possible prowler was reported to be traveling by canoe in Albany. A patrol was dispatched and investigation determined that the individual was not suspicious, and was just canoeing on the lake. -- October 1 at 11:45 a.m. A Bridgetown caller reported that three youth were walking along the streets and ripping up election signs. A patrol was dispatched, located the youth and ordered them to reinstall the campaign signs. -- October 1 at 2:05 p.m. A Middleton caller reported that a quantity of cash was stolen. -- October 1 at 4 p.m. A caller reported an impaired driver in Nictaux. The driver was located and charged. -- October 1 at 4:36 p.m. A dangerous driver was reported in Wilmot. -- October 1 at 5 p.m. A police check detected an impaired driver in Carleton Corner. The male was also found in possession of marijuana. He was arrested and held in cells over night. -- October 2 at 2:15 p.m. A caller reported that an injured and intoxicated male was walking trough Middleton. Police located the subject and following a health check, held him in cells. -- October 2 at 5:15 p.m. Police received a compliant of an impaired driver in Lawrencetown. -- October 3 at 1:08 Police were called to a single vehicle accident in Margaretsville. -- October 3 at 2:36 p.m. Police were called to Highway 8 in West Dalhousie after youth threw rocks at a vehicle. -- October 3 at 3:57 A Brickton caller reported a complaint of theft under $5,000 after a quantity of heating oil was stolen. -- October 3 at 7:39 p.m. A break and enter was reported in Torbrook. -- October 4 at 12:15 a.m. A noise complaint was reported when loud music was heard in Meadowvale. -- October 4 at 1:30 a.m. A disturbance was reported in Middleton when an intoxicated male was trying to gain entry into his residence. -- October 4 at 6:06 a.m. Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Nictaux. The suspect tried to evade police for a short distance, until the vehicle went in the ditch. The driver was found after a short foot chase, and the vehicle was later reported stolen. The driver is facing charges. -- October 4 at 3:15 p.m. Police were called to a Bridgetown business after an employee was assaulted. -- October 4 at 4:50 p.m. Police received a report of a black bear hanging around New Albany. -- October 5 at 3:28 a.m. Two males were reported to be fighting outside of a Middleton business. One intoxicated male was arrested. -- October 5 at 8:25 p.m. Police received a complaint that cattle were on the 101 Highway near Lawrencetown. The owner was located and the cattle collected. -- October 6 at 7:46 a.m. A Wilmot resident reported that an ATV had been stolen.
