Dozens of people braved the cold to help Annapolis Royal kick off the Christmas season tonight, starting with a parade of lights from the court house, a Christmas proclamation from town crier Peter Davies, greetings from Mayor Michael Tompkins, the lighting of the town Christmas tree and a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells by the entire crowd.

Santa also put in an appearance and along with Tompkins, Davies, and scores of local residents walked down to Market Square for hot chocolate, Christmas cookies, and a bonfire. Then it was off to O'Dell House for the opening night of Victorian Christmas where mulled cider and more cookies were available.
