Middleton Recreation and Community Services director Jennifer Coolen said the new outdoor rink at the old tennis courts at Centennial Park was a community effort and it appears the community is using the new 58-by-100-foot surface throughout the day and late into the evening.

Local firefighters and the town got together on the project but soon other local volunteers joined the effort, and two local hardware stores chipped in with materials. Local carpenter Richard Banks helped put it all together.

Last week the weather cooperated, the surface was flooded, and the skating began.
