O'Dell House Museum decked out for the holidays

O'Dell House Museum was decked out in 19th century finery Friday evening, the first night of its 38th annual Victorian Christmas.

A large crowd of all ages toured the Annapolis Royal museum from 7 to 9 p.m., just after Mayor Phil Roberts flipped the switch on the town's Christmas tree in front of Town Hall.

Friday night at O'Dell House was the first of sic opportunities for the public to see what it would have been like to celebrate Christmas before electricity and all the modern-day plastic and glitz.

Boughs, bows, and wreaths were all real, decorations were era-authentic, and candles, lamps, and lanterns were the only light source. But it was still colourful, and the atmosphere was warm and cosy.

There were cookies and mulled cider, and actors in amazing period costumes played the part throughout the evening.

Victorian Christmas at O'Dell House Museum continues November 26 from 7 to 9 p.m., November 27 from 2 to 4 p.m., December 2 and 3 from 7 to 9 p.m., and December 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.
