This weekend Margaretsville Days invites everyone to chill-out by The Bay with good food and music.
Local music sensations Tidal Funk kicks off Margaretsville Days this year. Tidal Funk is a collective of musicians from the area who get together every summer to play their unique repertoire of blues, jazz, rock, and the elusive funk. Tidal Funk plays Friday night at 8 p.m. and tickets are $17 with proceeds from this show helping support programming at Evergreen Theatre.
On Saturday the fun continues at 11 a.m. with the annual children’s parade. The young at heart can join the fun, as the parade is open to kids of all ages. The line-up starts at the fire hall. For more information call Kaitlyn at 825-4999.
Throughout the rest of the day, weather permitting, residents may set up tables for private yard sales.
Also on Saturday from 4 until 7 p.m. the community hall is holding a sea scallop dinner. Tickets are $20 and reservations are required. For those who want to make a night of it, Annie Lou is playing at the Evergreen Theatre 8 p.m. and concert-goers who call ahead can enjoy both dinner and the show for $30.
Yukon songwriters Anne Louise Genest and Kim Barlow join their considerable musical forces with the fine skills of Lindy Jones on upright bass and vocals, and Meredith Bates on fiddle to form Annie Lou.
Annie Lou’s lush vocal harmonies, beautifully crafted songs, and solid musical chops capture audiences when they take the stage. Their songs reflect the solitude and grit of their northern home and draw a straight line to other times and places.
On Sunday, the Margaretsville Lighthouse Bike Rally gets rolling at 1:30 p.m. Cyclists can choose a short 17-kilometer route from Margaretsville east around the square to Stronach Mountain Road down the mountain and returning by Ben Phinney Road; or the longer 24-kilometer route from Margaretsville west to Moshers Corner, down Gates Mountain to Highway 362, returning to Margaretsville by Highway 362.
Registration takes place at 1 p.m. at the Margaretsville Community Hall, with a reminder that parents, or guardians must sign for minors. For more information call 825-6834.
For those who simply want to visit Margarestville and stay cool, the ice cream parlour at the Community Hall will be open at 1:30 p.m.
