Annapolis Royal hosts an IncrEDIBLE Picnic, Sunday, Aug. 22, as Select Nova Scotia helps highlight local food. You, your family, and friends are invited.

Showcasing down-home grown and produced fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads, and beverages, this third annual Select Nova Scotia event runs between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the farmer’s market.

“Complement what you’ve brought in your picnic basket from home with fresh, right-from-around-here choices for one IncrEDIBLE picnic,” said organizer Heather LeBlanc.

This year there’s cover in case of rain, so August 22 is a go, no matter what.

Annapolis Royal’s IncrEDIBLE Picnic is a buy-local food celebration -- a meet, greet, and eat, bringing together 17 producers from the local community. Plus, the event coincides with Day 2 of Paint the Town, the 15th annual gathering of artists creating art all over town, including at the farmer’s market.

Local producers taking part include Halliday’s U-Pick, Bruce Family Farm, Acadiana Soy Products, Country Nook Café, Homeplace Farm, Wiseacres Produce, Beavercreek Winery, The German Bakery and Café, Inglis Farm, Great Expectations coffee and chocolate treats, Oakhaven Organic Farm, Hog Wild Pulled Pork Wild, Van Dyk’s Health Juice Products, Wild Rose Farm, LilyLakeReflections potato pancakes, and Annapolis Highland Winery.

As well, there’ll be entertainment by Tom Berry, music, and displays -- some interactive -- from the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, the UNESCO Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve, and the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute.

Local Agriculture

"The IncrEDIBLE picnics offer a great way to find out more about the local agriculture and agri-food businesses that help bring food to your table and it is a wonderful way to enjoy the day with family and friends," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "Nova Scotians are making a difference for our farmers, for our economy and for our way of life by choosing local foods."

Select Nova Scotia was developed by the province to create partnerships with food producers, processors, retailers, food service, and consumers and to promote the sale and consumption of Nova Scotia-grown and -produced food.
