Windsor–West Hants Summer Fest offers fun for all from July 28 to August 1.

Summer Fest president Richard Cole says there is no shortage of things to do during the five day event. “The festival is about a sense of community,” he says. “We’re celebrating ourselves.”

The former Sam Slick Days offers new attractions, like a reptile show, a car show, a family field day – including old standbys like spoon/egg race and three-legged race -- and a three-on-three basketball challenge.

Festival favorites return: teen dance, pancake breakfast, Windsor

Business Enhancement Society Street Fair, Tuner Car Show, children’s parade, Grand Street Parade, Hants County Cruisers Show and Shine, Pisiquid War Canoe Challenge and spectacular fireworks.

Recreation manager Jim Lambert says the annual Wet and Wild Pool Party, as well as the Elmcroft Playground Family Fun Day will entertain young and old at July 30. Last year’s event was a huge success, he adds: “It went really well. We had an awesome turn out.”

With swimming, face painting, cookie decorating, a balloon toss, hotdog and drink for $2, Lambert says, “you can’t go wrong.”

Windsor Recreation leads the annual children’s parade, too, and Lambert encourages all to come out.

July 31, Prince Edward Island’s Haywire takes the stage. According to Cole, “they’re right up there with April Wine and Trooper.”

“I hope people come,” Cole says. “Give our concerts a chance.

“Every town has to be proud of itself,” he adds. “Every town has to have a festival.”
