All Frugalistas and Fashionmistas should flock to King’s Theatre to see this season’s hottest offerings in chic rustic.
On Saturday at 8 p.m., Frenchy’s Fabulous Follies Fashion Show takes centre stage with a cast of familiar faces strutting some hip-cool numbas down the county’s catwalk. This theatre fundraiser is being held as part of the second annual Women’s Weekend in Annapolis Royal.
Various events are being hosted by the local businesses to give the ladies a much-deserved chance to glam-it-up, according to Tina Halliday, of the Annapolis Board of Trade.
“We wanted to give women a weekend that was all about them,” she said. “And it’s an excuse to come to town after the tourist season.”
She added that especially at this time of the year, women are so run-ragged with family activities and responsibilities, that they don’t make time for themselves. This is a chance to step back and indulge a little before the Christmas rush.
It could be a 10-minute massage, a temporary tattoo, some hula dancing, or a little bit of bauble therapy that’s in order. For others, a glimpse into the future with psychic Jeanne Rose may be the perfect pick-me-up.
Or, maybe it’s high time for a new-do. For a mere $15, ladies can get a new hairstyle and complimentary make-up consultation. Book ahead to ensure your space at each event, Halliday added.
Saturday night’s fun-filled Frenchy’s fashion extravaganza is being organized by a group of volunteers including John Coker, Wayne Currie and Jeanne (Doucette) Currie.
Geoff Keymer, manager of Kings Theatre, said that as in any premiere, insiders are keeping a close-wrap on creations. Aside from the latest chic rustic trends a la Chez Francois, we can expect a full complement of skits and musical entertainment. And a scrumptious line-up of incredible edibles awaits the groove armada, compliments of Marilyn Lawson.
All the fashions seen shimmying across the stage will be available to purchase that evening, he added. While the show features fashions for all ages, the emphasis is geared mainly towards the silver foxes; the area’s favoured demographic.
“Everyone knows that 60 is the new 40,” he added. “All our runway models are gray-haired.”
After all people, there is gray and then there is gray!
