Rampant rumors that searchers have found the body of missing 19-year-old Elizabeth Morrissette are not true, said Middleton RCMP Cpl. Dave Fraser this morning.
The rumor was swirling early this morning (December 10) in the local community and was even mentioned on a Facebook site set up by friends of the woman who has been missing since the car in which she was a passenger plunged into the Black River in Wilmot early Sunday morning.
Fraser said that even Morrissete’s father had heard the rumor.
He said search crews, along with the RCMP, met late Tuesday afternoon to discuss the next steps of the search. They did not resume the search Wednesday, but Fraser said he expects searchers will be back on site Friday or Saturday.
RCMP dog master Rick Bushy of New Minas was at the scene Wednesday, taking advantage of the bare ground which Fraser described as ideal now that the snow cover has melted.
"He's devoted a considerable amount of time to it this afternoon," Fraser said at about 4:30 p.m.
