Margaretsville Days is coming up fast, scheduled to take place July 31 through August 2.

The celebration is set to kick-off at Evergreen Theatre on Friday night with a special, twice as nice performance by the Tidal Funk Orchestra. This special two-for-one deal features Tidal Funk again on Saturday night for one admission price of $17. Two different performances, over two nights for one price.

The festivities continue Saturday morning with the Children’s Parade at 11 a.m.. The parade begins at the Fire hall and circles through the village. A Hodge Podge luncheon will take place at the Margaretsville United Church from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. “We’re gonna Hodge-Podge ‘til it’s gone,” said Betty Little, Margaretsville’s resident Hodge-Podge epicuree. No reservations are required at this luncheon, that is being served on a first-come first-served basis.

A special benefit supper for the Margaretsville Wharf is planned Saturday evening starting at 4 p.m. and running until 7 p.m. Reservations are required for this dinner featuring Bay of Fundy scallops, all proceeds are being directed towards repairing the Margaretsville Wharf.

Sherry Nichols, a volunteer with the Margaretsville Community Hall, said that some repairs have already been carried out at the wharf thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Municipality of Annapolis. Bradford Poole replaced and reinforced pilings that were destroyed last year. “He did a really fantastic job, it’s beautiful, ” she said. “Now we’re waiting to hear back from an ACOA grant to finish.”

Last August more than 15 feet of the outer pilings collapsed, exposing and spilling the rock ballast. Estimates to repair the damage are set in the vicinity of $200,000, so the community is busy organizing various fundraisers.

On Sunday, Margaretsville’s famous Ice Cream Parlour afternoon tops-off the weekend festivities. Other Margaretsville must-sees this weekend include a new exhibit that is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse. And a special silent auction taking place Friday night through Saturday at the community hall.
