The Annapolis Digby Economic Development Agency continues to announce new initiatives for 2009, including two important gatherings coming up this February at the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre in Cornwallis.

On Valentine’s Day, the Digby Area Tourism Association invites you and your family to Celebrate the Timeless Fundy. In partnership with ADEDA, the Annapolis Regional Tourism Council, Destination Southwest Nova, and Annapolis Royal, DATA is billing the event as “the greatest regional expo ever.”

Celebrate the Timeless Fundy will offer 120 exhibits by local artisans, tourism operators and local businesses, featuring storytelling, music, displays, local food, a silent auction and door prizes. The event will highlight everything Annapolis-Digby has to offer through its unique culture, people, food, history, land, and sea.

Three days later, ADEDA will partner with NS Department of Economic Development to host a Reverse Trade Show on February 17. The idea is to take trade show conventional wisdom and flip it on its head: instead of suppliers hosting booths to pitch their wares, local producers and suppliers are invited to visit booths hosted by provincial agencies to discuss goods, services, support programs, procurement and other opportunities.

The NS-DED has developed the Reverse Trade Shows with an eye toward strengthening relationships and understanding between public and private interests, and encouraging small and medium-sized businesses to become a part of the procurement process by bidding on government tenders.

The Reverse Trade Show offers entrepreneurs and businesspeople a chance to meet buyers face-to-face, ask questions about procurement and other opportunities. Through this initiative the NS-DED hopes to increase the number of suppliers from the region that respond to tenders and standing offers, and to further promote its activities in support of a growing provincial economy.
